Evaluate About Books 1Q84 (1Q84 #1)
This is the first book of this trilogy. So far so good but not so extraordinary as Wind-Up Chronicle.2* Yesterday4* Town of Cats3* Kafka on the Shore3* Norwegian Wood3* Hunting Knife4* Minha Querida Sputnik5* The Wind-Up Bird ChronicleCR 1Q84TR After the Quake

This book is mind-blowing. I've never delved into literature other than English or Afrikaans (my native South African language). But 1Q84 has given me a whole new reading experience. The characters are fully fleshed-out. The story draws you in and the writing is absolutely beautiful. It's science fiction like you've never read before. It combines fantasy, dystopian and philosophical elements without detracting from the core of the narrative. If you loved The Man in High Castle or any other

4.5 starsLoving it so far although to be honest I'm having trouble identifying why I love it that much. I notice that I want to keep reading, wanting to know where it is all headed, how certain parts are linked (or not). It is not that there's a lot of action, I guess it's just the mysterious feel of it all. At the same time I'm wondering how far Murakami will go with the fantasy elements; hopefully he will not overdo it (view spoiler)[hoping that The Little People are a reference to

Reread (2015)Awesome--Read (December 28, 2009)I don't know how he does it, but it's good. Really, really good. I was sucked into it from the very beginning and had a hard time putting it down. I can't wait to read the next volume. Here, you'd see the master at work. His signature surrealism is there, as well as parallel narratives like in Hardboild Wonderland and the End of the World and Kafka on the Shore. But Murakami does something new in this book. It's told in the third person point of view.

I was doing my daily visit to the book section of the Guardian website when I saw an article about a book being declared 'indecent' in Hong Kong. The book was Killing Commendatore, which is available in all of its uncensored glory in the UK on 9th October. Unfortunately Hong Kong has censored the book and you have to be 18 or over to buy it. Having never heard of Hakuri Marukami and discovering that he's kind of a big deal in Japan I found myself purchasing 1Q84. My paperback edition has all

Double-sided stories are typical Murakami. We've already experienced this kind of Geminian adventures in "The End of the World & Hardboiled Wonderland". This time, however, it came as a re-masterized 2010-written story located in a unexisting 2-moon earth in 1984. Book #1 happens to be an introduction to this sort of world, which at first seems to be the same-old-same place we are used to live in, but as time passes, we find Aomame & Tengo inmersed in an amost Orwellian 1894 atmosphere.
