Ilustration Supposing Books Years

The sweeping plains held the promise of a lifetime.

Linnea

Eager to begin her first teaching position, lovely Linnea Brandonberg stepped off the train looking as grown up and worldly as her eighteen years would allow. The golden fields and fragrant wheat of Alamo, North Dakota, were as new and different as the Westgaard family with whom she would live.

Teddy

Farm life in 1917 was hard and bitter—but tiny, spirited Linnea was determined to brave its challenges. And as World War I threatened to take those she held dear, Linnea grew to womanhood in the arms of Teddy Westgaard, a man who thought he'd never find love.

Years

A story of passion. A story of heartache. A story of a way of life that will long be remembered—with people and places as real as the emotions of the heart.

Crit Containing Books Years
While reading "Years", I've enjoyed being transported to North Dakota in 1917-18 and - over the course of some 450 pages - being totally immersed in the life of the Norwegian Westgaard clan. There was a genuine and very tangible sense of family in this book and thats what touched me to the core. I loved every bit of description of the Westgaards' daily life on the farm and their connection to nature. There were hardships and there were simple joys in those times, and it felt absolutely amazing

Every once in a while a book lands in your possession that will sweep you away. The characters and storyline will engulf all your emotions beyond your wildest imagination. Years by LaVyrle Spencer is fantastic, absolutely fantastic. I was so swept away in Linnea & Theodores journey through this amazing story. The entire Westgaards family wrapped themselves around my heart and seared their down to earth goodness into my very soul. An absolute phenomenal book and I highly recommend reading it

It is so hard to review this book; it is a very good book, in the sense that has good storytelling and great scene setting, with lovely midwest historical descriptions... but I could not enjoy it as I hoped. The heroine had her own growing to do, and experiences to gain, all in the expansive length of one year (!!) while the hero overcomes the most awful barrier of his "old" age before he gains some sense. And then... not. Because he keeps plenty of excuses before acting on his feelings,

Years Have Only Made This Book BetterI read "Years" by LaVyrle Spencer 20 years ago as a teenager and knew, even then, it was a well-written, character-rich story. Twenty years later and I'm not only older, but also in a different stage in life and I enjoyed it even more on this reread. It's one of my favorite historical romances ever. It's rare when an author can depict every day life in a historical time so accurately, and yet make it so engrossing and engaging at the same time. Our two main

Nice story, not great. I felt this was more about family and community life than romance. It took place in 1917 in a N. Dakota wheat farming community. The title "Years" refers to the age difference between an 18 year old school teacher falling in love with a 34 year old farmer. The development of their romance was interesting, but the story had its share of tears from tragedies and the harsh life. It was a nice story, but I prefer a little more romance than this offered. Sexual content: mild.

Hmmmm. After reading Spencer's Morning Glory, this tale pales a bit in comparison. It's good in its own right, but nothing when compared to some of Spencer's other work. I liked Linnea and Teddy, but sometimes their immature antics grated on the nerves a bit. I enjoyed their chemistry together, but felt like there wasn't really enough time spent on just them. Once they got together, it was like they'd never fallen in love. And that was disappointing. The avalanche of bad that occurs in the final

I must've read this romance novel a dozen times already. I don't know what it is about this classic but everytime I read it it makes me smile and wish I was Linnea :)
