Once upon a time... In New York City, a young, secretive street tough who calls himself, Bear, lands on the doorstep of two teenaged sisters. On the one hand Rose is delighted with his surprising knowledge of literature, poetry, and music; on the other hand Blanche is afraid of his apparent connections to drugs, murder, and a hidden treasure. Even as Blanche learns to trust him, her fears that Bear's friendship threatens their family prove terrifyingly true.

Critique Appertaining To Books The Shadow of the Bear (A Fairy Tale Retold #1)
I listened to the dramatized audio presentation available on FORMED.

I'm..... a little bit confused with this one.I'm even confused as to what I'm going to rate it - 3 stars? 3.5 stars? 4 stars? For what? Did I like it?I think what threw me off the most was that this is a fairy-tale retelling - in a Catholic setting. Now, I'm Catholic, so normally I love Catholic stories..... but this was just a little too weird for me. I mean, we've got Catholic references all over the place, but do they really seem to take it seriously? No. And we have our climax in an abandoned

Full disclosure: I wrote this book. It was my first published book and will always have a special place in my heart. The first book in the "Snow White and Rose Red" trilogy. Enjoy!

3.5 stars. I'm bumping this up to 4 since a week later I am still thinking about the characters. This was a good book. My only complaints have to do with writing style, pacing, etc... I thought the POV changes were hard to follow sometimes. I like the characters and how the story was adapted to modern day. I could easily see this being made into a movie. I also thought it was nice how God and Church were woven into the story. It didn't feel forced. There is no doubt that the main characters in

I liked this book. The only thing that was bothering me was (view spoiler)[ the Briers let Bear, a total stranger, in the house, and the mother Jean said they were "helping the sick" and it was what Christ would have wanted them to do. Erm, in real life, Bear would have murdered them. Christ wouldn't want us to invite a stranger in that might hurt us. (hide spoiler)]I was pleasantly surprised at how well Regina Doman weaved together a modern 2000s millennia setting with the classic fairy tale

Loved it! There is a 2nd and a 3rd book also for this series. I haven't read the 3rd, but I plan to. Regina Doman's modern version of Snow White and Rose Red (NOT Disney's Snow White, by the way) is fascinating. I love how she wrote the 7 monks in her 2nd book (which IS based on Disney's Snow White, in a way)...

A retelling of Snow White and Rose Red. Loved it! Proper review forthcoming on re-read.
